Christmas Timeee!
I love the time around Christmas.. Everyone is just really happy and I'm always really thankful for all my friends and family.
This Christmas time has been really busy, I REALLY wanted to get a chance to go to Schenectady and be with my parents, but I probably wouldn't have been able to take off time and the plane ticket would have been really expensive.. So I spent Christmas with my almost family.. (Jons family) His grandparents came for Christmas and I really love seeing them. Hopefully we will make it out to California sometime.
On Christmas Eve we went to Church with Jon's family and we had Fondue for dinner.. Yummy! It was delicious. I love all their Christmas traditions!
One of the early Christmas presents I got from Jonathan's mother was a Cake pop book and baking pan. I finally experimented with it for Christmas day. One thing that I wish I knew before I started making them is.. This will not be easy the first time.. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.. It took us 3 times to actually make decent looking Cake pops... The first two times the pops split in half or didn't even come out at all..
Cooking lesson #14
One thing I have learned while cooking is Don't freak out when something goes wrong, there is always a way to fix it or at-least cover it up.
I tried to use frosting a glue to stick the split cake pops together. Inventive right?
Finally I made a good batch of them.. I put them in the fridge before I tried to take the pops out of the baking pan.. This made all the difference, they popped out beautifully.
Now time for the easy part. melting the melting chocolate.. It worked out fine and I dipped a few of the Cake Pops (easy peasy) then the Chocolate started turning a weird color and crystallising.. I think I had the temperature too warm.. ooops. So I just decided to use frosting to coat the other Cake Pops... Didn't look as pretty and pristine but it got the job done.
So Stay tuned for another go with the cake pops.. Hopefully the second time will unleash better results.
The next day was the day we've all been waiting for.. Christmas day was finally here. We woke up bright and early and were over at his parents house at 8 to be in time for the stockings and Christmas breakfast. Quiche was on the menu, It was exactly perfect for Christmas..It hit the spot.
We opened the stockings before breakfast, then we ate and then It was present time. woo hoo!
Jon and I got so many presents.. I really wasn't expecting that many at all.. The present I am most excited about is a CROCKPOT!!!!! I have already used it twice and I love it.
This is the present Charlie was most excited about!
And of course I got more wedding books ( Thanks Kate)
Then after presents we Skyped with Kate Blake and Kyle. :) It was really fun and I love seeing such a cute kid. After that Kate made a Facebook status about it and called me Aunt Rachel aww. ;)
For the rest of the afternoon we relaxed and a little later their family friends came over for dinner and we had a very yummy dinner and dessert. yum cheesecake.
We had to take a whole lot of trips to the car to get all our presents in there, and it was quite chilly. brrr
We have a tiny Christmas tree in our apartment and we are slowly starting our own ornament collection.. how cute. I got a few ornaments from the kids at work. :)
Jon and I exchanged Christmas presents on Christmas Eve since we were going to be busy all of Christmas day. We got each other Nintendo 3ds's and a few other things.. Apparently he didn't like my presents so he bought himself a Portal gun.....from... a video game.. and he wrote on the present To Jon from Rachie.. REALLY?
I can't believe I'm engaged to someone as silly as him :D
Thanks for reading Ya'll :P
Woo hoo, I can get some cooking done, I have tomorrow and the next day off.. Can't wait.
