Burgers!!

This past Saturday I was watching my DVR'd episode of The Pioneer Woman.. I love her, and on her show she made patty melts and a really pretty tomato salad.  Jon was watching with me and once he heard the words patty melts I knew I would have to make them for him..  oh boy.
That boy loves burgers
One of the things that I was nervous about was sauteing the onions for the top of the burgers but they turned out beautiful.

sauteing the onions
really didn't need to worry about that....

The only problem with cooking the burgers is they got a little messy..probably used a tad bit too much butter.  Cleaning up after cooking is no fun.. but I guess it's slightly better then doing the dishes
... oh and when you start doing the dishes .. It's a bad time to figure out that you are out of dish soap.. booo

Patty Melts

Ingredients

  • 1 stick Butter
  • 1 whole Large Onion, Halved And Sliced
  • 1-1/2 pound Ground Beef
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste
  • 5 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
  • 8 slices Swiss Cheese
  • 8 slices Rye Bread

Preparation Instructions

In a medium skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-low heat. Throw in the sliced onions and cook slowly for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden brown and soft.
In a medium bowl, mix together the ground beef, salt & pepper, and Worcestershire. Form into 4 patties.
Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a separate skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties on both sides until totally done in the middle.
Assemble patty melts this way: Slice of bread, slice of cheese, hamburger patty, 1/4 of the cooked onions, another slice of cheese, and another slice of bread. On a clean griddle or in a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter and grill the sandwiches over medium heat until golden brown. Remove the sandwiches and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Turn the sandwiches to the skillet, flipping them to the other side. Cook until golden brown and crisp, and until cheese is melted.
Burgers are almost done!

Slice in half and serve immediately!

Finished burger:)

  1. Really? When's Jon's birthday? Tommy's is March 29th. He already has his present though. I re-bought him his PS3. Plus a hockey game and MIB Alien Crisis for us to play together. The Patty Melt seems delicious. I don't know if I'd like the onions though. I am getting used to them and my tastes are changing but. I don't know. TTYl Rach
